Paul Carrick Biography
Paul was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts, USA. His parents (Donald and Carol Carrick) were a well known illustrator/writer team that created many children’s books. Being surrounded by an artistic family influenced Paul greatly. As a child, he entertained himself with painting, drawing, and sculpting. In elementary school he discovered role-playing games, and the illustrations captured his imagination!
After high school, Paul attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence Rhode Island where he studied illustration. While he was studying, he learned of H.P. Lovecraft, a famous gothic horror writer from the 1920’s and 30’s, who not only lived in Providence but set many of his tales within mere blocks of the campus. As school was coming to an end, Paul thought that he should try and get some work before he was out of school. The obvious choice were the publishing companies that made the games he had enjoyed so much. After some persistence, Paul started working with those companies. Though Paul has created hundreds of illustrations for numerous game companies (role playing and card games), it was the Lovecraft related work which seemed to get the most positive response. Since then, Paul have expanded his knowledge on the subject and it has become his specialty.
